Basic knowledge about low melt fiber you need to know

Basic knowledge about Low Melt Fiber(LMF) You need to know:

Made by mixing normal grade chips  and modified low melting point chips. Low melt fiber can be melted at lower temperatures (110C to 130C) than normal (260C) and bonded with other fibers like solid polyester and recycled materials.

Non-woven fibers are run through either a hot-air  oven, a calendar or an infra-red heater. This leads to soldering the fibers together when the low melt fibers melt and flow around the standard polyester fibers. For high loft non-woven, this is the primary bonding method and a secondary one when needled non-woven fibers are to be heated to give more strength.

Properties of Low Melt Fiber

  • It bonds well as it provides diverse melting points by controlling the sheath part i.e.: modified polyester.
  • It has lower melting points, that is between 110 C to 180 C than other fibers.
  • After being combined with other fibers, the bonding strength remains durable semi-permanently
  • As it is homogeneous with other types of fibers, it blends easily.
  • It is recyclable, which is a great feature considering people who are seeking greener options.
  • The fiber has a remarkable heat bonding property.
  • Low melt fiber has stable structure thereby can be processed smoothly into any other form.

The fiber is used in different applications as it is highly resilient.

  • Applications of Low Melt Fiber As low melt fiber has a wide range of diverse properties; they are used in manufacturing of a wide variety of products. Their uses are listed below:
  • The fiber finds its application in production of high-quality mattresses, padding and interlining.
  • This kind of fiber is used in spinning of durable yarns.
  • The intricate structure makes low melt fiber an excellent insulating material for buildings and automotive.
  • In industries, the fiber is processed to high quality and durable non-woven.
  • The fibers are also used in making of sanitary and medical goods. To use low melting fiber in all these applications, it is necessary that you get it from a reliable source.
